
The hall soon became filled with people eagerly waiting to hear words that might heal the unrest within them. The atmosphere was heavy with expectation, and every eye turned toward the entrance when the wise man finally appeared.
He walked calmly to the front of the room, his face carrying a quiet smile that seemed untouched by the troubles of life. Rather than beginning with serious teachings, he decided to lighten the mood. Looking at the crowd, he shared a humorous joke.
Immediately, the entire room burst into loud laughter.
Some leaned forward in amusement while others wiped tears from their eyes because of how funny the joke was. For a moment, every burden in the room seemed forgotten.
The wise man waited patiently for the laughter to settle.
A few minutes later, he repeated the exact same joke.
This time, only a handful of people laughed. The reaction was noticeably weaker. Some merely smiled politely while others remained quiet, already familiar with the punchline.
The wise man paused again, observing the room carefully.
Then, after another short silence, he repeated the same joke for a third time.
Now the room fell completely silent.
No one laughed.
No one even smiled.
The people simply stared at him, confused as to why he would continue repeating something that had already lost its effect.
The wise man then looked at them gently and said:
“You cannot laugh at the same joke again and again. So why do you continue crying over the same problem over and over?”
A deep silence filled the room.
His words struck the hearts of everyone present. Many lowered their eyes in reflection as they realized how much of their lives had been consumed by repeatedly revisiting the same pain, the same disappointments, and the same fears.
Some people spend years reliving old wounds that can no longer be changed. They replay painful memories in their minds daily, allowing yesterday’s sorrows to steal today’s peace. Instead of healing, they feed their grief through constant worry and endless reflection upon things beyond their control.
The wise man wanted them to understand that while problems are real, constantly dwelling upon them only multiplies suffering. Pain becomes heavier when carried endlessly in the mind and heart.
Life does not move forward for those who remain chained to yesterday.
Sometimes, the greatest form of healing begins when a person decides to release what they cannot change and place their energy into living again. Worrying repeatedly about the same hardship does not remove it; rather, it drains joy, strength, hope, and peace from the soul.
